Wood Fences - Which Wood should I choose?
Wood Fences are very popular here in the greater Raleigh area. They allow for both an aesthetically pleasing fence and provide numerous design details. However, not all wood fences are created equal. The first step towards a quality wood fence is to choose quality materials for the fence regardless of the design. Most wood fences utilize pressure treated southern yellow pine (SYP) as the main material. There are many benefits to SYP including its economical price-point, the pressure treatment process provides years of near maintenance free life and can be easily repaired should a portion of the fence get damaged. The secret to a long lasting fence is the use of Ground Contact Rated Pressure Treated lumber. There are various grades of Pressure Treatment and when it comes to fences you want to use those that have been treated for use at or near the ground level. Since a wood fence must survive all that mother nature can throw at it. Another often overlooked component of a fence is the mechanical fasteners used to assemble the fence. Here at Good Neighbor Fence Co we only use galvanized ring-shank nails that act like screws when installed thus keeping the wood components of the fence secured together for many years. Give us a call to learn more about how we design and assemble each of our fences!
